For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
i. have satisfactorily served as a Senior Coxswain I for a period of at
least three (3) years in the grade; and
ii. be in possession of a certificate of competence as a master (Coasting
Vessel), and have an ability to steer a vessel not exceeding 100 Net Registered
Tonnage (NRT) or any other equivalent qualifications.
The
Shipmaster III is the overall in charge of a medium sized the vessel. At this
level, duties include;
i.
supervision of staff;
ii.
manning the vessel;
iii.
ensuring safety of the vessel;
iv.
maintaining the general staff welfare;
v.
ensuring compliance with National and international Regulations on
Navigation:
vi.
overseeing the discharge of wastes; and
vii.
control of all fishing operations including handling and storage of fish.
